The 250 μm fibers are placed in loose tubes made of high modulus plastic. The tubes are filled with waterproof filling compound. A steel wire is located at the center of the core as a metallic strength member. Tubes (and fillers) are stranded around strength members into a compact circular cable core. After applying an Aluminum Polyethylene Laminate (APL) moisture barrier around the cable core, this section of the cable is completed with a Polyethylene (PE) sheath along with the stranded wires as the supporting part, as shown in Figure 8.
